CAMPUS

Highden Manor, a 100-year old graceful historic building, is the centerpiece of our 35-acre rural campus. A sweeping ring of majestic trees envelopes the inner cluster of main buildings: the manor, dormitory, wharenui/meeting house and classrooms. Just inside the 18,000 square foot manor are:

· kitchen and dining room
· library

· drawing room

· several offices

· 14 upstairs bedrooms

Situated serenely about the grounds are:

• student dormitory
• meeting hall
• outdoor fountains
• 1800 rose bushes
• a swimming pool
• stone mandala
• 7 acres of native "bush"

Well known as a historical landmark of Victorian Queen Anne architecture, Highden Manor was built in 1898 as the country house of Walter Woods Johnston, an influential businessman and member of parliament. Following his death the estate was purchased by the House of Mary in 1923. The dorm and chapel were later constructed. Highden remained a seminary until 1990 when the property was purchased and upgraded for use as an inn and restaurant. From 2000 to 2003 it was home to a small philosophy institute.
